Biographical / Historical

Kayton R. Palmer was born in Butte, North Dakota in 1925. At the age of 18 he joined the Navy and served from 1943-1946. Following his time in the service he attended the University of California from 1946-1950 earning his B.A. In 1954 he began his time at Princeton Theological Seminary graduating in 1957 with his Bachelors of Divinity. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church in 1957 by the San Francisco Presbytery. Kayton Palmer’s first presbytery was at three rural churches in Angus, Minnesota from 1957-1961. He then became an Assistant Pastor at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. He stayed there through 1965. From 1965 until 1970 he was the Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Aberdeen, South Dakota. Kayton Palmer then had a three-year gap before taking up the pastorate again at Czech Brethren Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake, Minnesota. He stayed at this church from 1973 to 1985. From 1985 until 1987 he pastored at Frist Presbyterian Church in Rushmore, Minnesota. After his stay at this last church Kayton Palmer became an interim pastor. He held this position at five churches from 1987 to 1993. These churches were located all throughout the Midwest from Indiana and Illinois to North Dakota. After his final interim in 1993 he moved back to St. Paul, Minnesota.
