Warren William Ost papers
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of course notes from Ost's time at Princeton Seminary plus books, files, conference materials, and correspondence pertaining to tourism ministries, leisure, travel, and immigration. Of special note are Ost's papers from his ministry as founder of A Christian Ministry in the National Parks (ACMNP)and the role of churches in responding to the challenges of leisure among persons who travel.

Biographical / Historical
Warren William Ost was born June 24, 1926, in Mankato, Mn. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1948 and received a M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1951, where he spent an additional year as teaching fellow. He was awarded a D.D. degree from Moravian Theological Seminary in 1971.
Founding chairperson and chief executive officer of A Christian Ministry in the National Parks (AMCNP), Ost first worked as a bellhop at the Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone National Park in 1945. As a seminarian he filled in as chaplain and choirmaster at Yellowstone and in 1946 established AMCNP, a parks volunteer program staffed by seminarians and college students. He was ordained in 1951 by the Presbytery of Minneapolis.
Ost directed AMCNP 1951-1986. He helped coordinate American participation in the 1967 Vatican Congress on Spiritual Values of Tourism in 1967 and helped found Tourisme Oecuménique an international tourism organization.
Warren William Ost died November 6, 1997, in New York.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Warren William Ost's papers were given to Princeton Theological Seminary Library's Special Collections by Nancy N. Ost in two donations, the first in 1998 and the second in 2003.
