Biographical / Historical

John Lloyd was born to Thomas and Catharine Lloyd on October 1, 1813 in McConnellstown, PA. He graduated from Jefferson College in 1839. After a two-year interval, he enrolled at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1841, graduating in 1844. He was also licensed to preach by the New York Presbytery in April and ordained by the Huntingdon Presbytery on May 7 of the same year. On June 7, he set sail from New York to Amoy, China as a missionary. He spent the next four years translating the Bible into Chinese until his untimely death on December 6, 1848.
