Biographical / Historical
Michael Osborn was born March 21, 1796, in Essex County, New Jersey. According to Princeton Theological Seminary alumni records dated 1872, he attended Princeton Seminary 1819-1822. The records state, “He did not go to college but received a fair academical training.” He was licensed to preach by the New York Presbytery October 10, 1822, and was ordained by the Elizabethtown Presbytery February 23, 1825, at Metuchen.
Osborn married Harriet Hutchings July 16, 1824, and Sophronia Osborn November 14, 1836. He held pastorates in Georgia, New Jersey, Virginia, and North Carolina. He died of consumption at home in Farmville, Virginia, July 3, 1863.

Custodial History
Notes written on the front flyleaf of volume one outline the collection's custodial history and disposition as directed by Osborn and his descendants. The collection was given to Princeton Theological Seminary Special Collections in 2007 by Roberta Shaver Snyder, who received them from Osborn's great grandson John.
