Collection consists of five archive boxes of sermons by Scott, plus one box containing correspondence between Scott and Charles Hodge, Hugh Lenox Hodge, Robert J. Breckenridge, and others; class lecture notes; and a bound manuscript, "Over Popocatepetl: A Novel With Many Heroines, By The Society of 'Ghouls', Allegheny Pa. 1874".

Biographical / Historical
William McKendree Scott (1817-1861) was born in Jefferson County, Ohio. He attended Jefferson College and graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1846. Scott married Mary Elizabeth Hodge, a daughter of Professor Charles Hodge of Princeton, on September 9, 1847. Over the course of his ministry he served as pastor of several Presbyterian churches, professor of Ancient Languages at Centre College, Kentucky, and professor of Biblical Literature at North-Western Theological Seminary (McCormick). He was awarded the honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Centre College in 1856. Scott died in Princeton December 22, 1861.
