Biographical Information
Nathaniel Huntting was a Presbyterian minister who spent the vast majority of his preaching career at East Hampton Presbyterian Church. He was a meticulous record keeper and his documentations of baptisms, marriages, and deaths have been an invaluable resource for some historians. His ministerial style has been seen by some as transitional. His sermons were much shorter than traditional New England sermons, which could last for hours, and he was less strict about the singing of psalms during worship. At the same time, he was skeptical of New Side ministers and their new methods of worship during the 1730s and 1740s. He ministered in East Hampton for 49 years and died at the age of 78.
