Biographical Information
Little is known about Thomas Nisbet, other than he attended a chemistry class taught by one Dr. Webster at the University of Edinburgh. The bulk of his notebook is dated 1704. However, the final portion is dated 1784 and is in another hand. We do not know if Thomas wrote both sections. Obviously, if this final section was written in 1784 Thomas would have been in advanced age, especially for his time. Furthermore, it is doubtful that his handwriting would have changed so significantly. It is more likely that this notebook was passed down in a family library or given away, and that another person later added to Nisbet's notes.
