Biographical / Historical

Young Kyo Hahn, born on November 17, 1902, in Pusan, Korea. He was educated in his home town before attending college at Union Christian College, Pyeng-Yang, Korea, responding to an invitation of a missionary who belonged to the Presbyterian Church of the United States. Hahn then attended Princeton Theological Seminary in the fall of 1934, completing courses for Th.B. and Th.M. After completing his studies at Princeton Seminary, Hahn was matriculated at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois where he earned his Th.D in 1944. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church of Korea in April 1949.

After ordination, Hahn held the following positions at Yonsei University: professor in October 1948, Dean of the College of Theology in 1949, Dean of the Graduate School in 1952, Dean of the Pusan Campus in 1953, and President of the Pusan Yonsei Vocational College from 1961-1964.

After leaving Yonsei in 1964, Hahn served as Director of the Christian Broadcasting Station until the following year, when he returned to the United States to serve as an Assistant to the Minister at the Colonial Church of Bayside, NY, until 1956.

He continued religious work until 1981 when he completed his final assignment as President of the Korean Bible Seminary of Baltimore in Maryland. Hahn died one year after retiring from his final assignment in 1982 at the age of 80.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The Hahn family donated this collection to PTS Special Collections in 2015.
