Biographical / Historical
Henry Jackson Van Dyke was pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn and author of Model Prayer and The Church, Her Ministry, and Sacraments.
His son Henry Van Dyke was pastor of the Brick Church in New York City and a poet, minister to the Netherlands, and longtime Princeton professor (1899-1913, 1919-1923) of English literature. The younger Van Dyke wrote the Christmas story "The Story Of The Other Wise Man" (1896).
Both men were graduates of Princeton Theological Seminary, in 1846 and 1877 respectively.
