Biographical Information

William Edward Schenck (1819-1903) was born in Princeton, New Jersey. He graduated from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) and Princeton Seminary (class of 1842). He served as a Presbyterian missionary and pastor for many years.

Some of these items were given to the Seminary Libraries in December of 1976 by W.E.S. Griswold, Jr., a relative of William Schenck's from Old Lyme, Connecticut. Other items may have been given in July of 1981 by a Mr. Hollenbach through the agency of the Lehigh County Historical Society in Allentown, Pennsylvania. For many years this collection was preserved in archival storage. The collection was organized and the original finding aid was written in October of 1996, by Raymond D. Cannata, under the direction of William O. Harris, Archivist. The finding aid was edited by Sarah Seraphin and Daved Anthony Schmidt in June of 2009.
