Biographical Information
David Trumbull was one of the earliest Protestant missionaries in Chile and the first to have worked in the country for an extended period of time. He was a graduate of Yale and Princeton Seminary. He was especially influenced by Archibald Alexander and Charles Hodge. Little is known about his wife Jane. Her parents owned a plantation in North Carolina and both died by the time she was fifteen. She then moved to Connecticut to be cared for by her uncle, the Reverend Eleazar T. Fitch, professor of Homiletics at the Divinity School at Yale College. She traveled to Chile with David and her journal from this period is part of the collection.
