The Edward Dorr Yeomans Collection
Scope and Contents
The Yeomans Collection consists of two slender volumes. The first contains a numerical listing of “sermons” and “skeletons.” The section entitled “sermons” has 373 sermon titles and Scripture texts. The section entitled “skeletons” has 462 lesson or sermon titles with Scripture texts. The second volume is entitled, “Record of Official Services, vol. II, 1862-1867.” This volume consists of a chronological listing of services while Yeomans was pastor of the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Trenton, NJ.

Biographical / Historical
Edward Dorr Yeomans was born in North Adams, Massachusetts on September 27, 1829. He was primarily privately tutored by his father, but also studied with the Reverand Baynard R. Hall in Trenton, NJ. He spent two years at Lafayette College in Easton, PA but did not graduate. He continued his studies under his father and eventually received an A.M. (Master of Arts) degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1849. He was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Northumberland in Montousville, PA on April 21, 1847, and was ordained by them on November 29, 1854. He served as a pastor at Warrior Run, PA. from 1854 to 1858.
Yeomans married Anna Corilla Green, the daughter of George Green of Trenton, NJ on January 12, 1859. He then served as pastor of the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Trenton from 1859 to 1863. From 1863 to 1867 he served as pastor of St. Peter’s Church in Rochester, NY, and from 1867 to 1868 as pastor of Central Presbyterian Church in Orange, NJ. In 1864 he was awarded an honorary D.D. by the College of New Jersey (Now Princeton). He died on August 25, 1868.

This collection consists of one archival box containing two folders. Folder 1 entitled “Sermons” contains one notebook. Folder 2 entitled “Record of Sermons” also contains one notebook.
