Biographical / Historical

Dr. Edward Martin Huenemann was an American theologian, ordained in the Presbyterian Church in 1946. Huenemann was born on February 18, 1920 in Curtiss, Wisconsin to William Arthur and Mary Sophia (Hansmeier) Huenemann. He graduated from Lakeland College in 1943 before attending McCormick Seminary where he graduated with his bachelor's degree in 1946. He married Gladys Frances Oesau on June 23, 1946. Between 1946 and 1961, Huenemann moved to New Jersey and received his doctorate of theology from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1961. Dr. Huenemann had an extensive career in the Presbyterian Church and education working as a pastor in Wisconsin from 1946 to 1952. From 1952 to 1958, he worked in Trenton, New Jersey Presbyterian churches, East Trenton Presbyterian Church (pastor, 1952-1956) and First Prebyterian Church (1956-1958). Huenemann taught at Hanover College in Indiana as a professor of theology from 1958 to 1967 before becoming director of theological studies in the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America in 1967 until 1986. In 1986, he became the director of the Theology in Global Context Association. Since 1962, Huenemann lectured at theological universities in seven countries and thirty-one states. Huenemman died in 1996, in Bergen County, New Jersey. His wife Gladys and their children, Jonathan, Joan, and Kathryn survive him.

Dr. Huenemann arranged these selections as working projects during the years that span from 1958 to 1967 where he was teaching at Hanover College as a residing professor of theology. It should be noted that parts of these sections predate and postdate the time spent at Hanover College, and shows the overall development of Dr. Huenemann's thinking. The grouping of boxes are labeled as topical files (1, 2, 4) and are organized alphabetically. Boxes 3 and 7 are arranged alphabetically by author. Boxes 5 and 6 are arranged chronologically by year.
