The collection contains materials (files, illustrations, binders, photographs, correspondences, and drafts) primarily focused on the creation of Bottigheimer’s The Bible for Children from the Age of Gutenberg to the Present. Most of these mixed materials are photocopies of various texts and illustrations—as well as pertinent bibliographical information—Bottigheimer assumedly used in drafting her book.

Biographical / Historical
Ruth (Sue) B. Bottigheimer (1939- ) is the Research Professor of Comparative Literature (1984- ) in the Department of Cultural Analysis and Theory at the State University of New York-Stony Brook. Her research specializes in European fairy tales, British children’s literature, and the history of illustration and the religious socialization of children through Bible narratives. She received a B.A. (1961) and M.A. (1964) from the University of California-Berkeley and D.A. (1981) from the State University of New York-Stony Brook. Her previous professorial positions include a lectureship at Princeton University (1981-1984) and a guest professorship at the Universities of Gottingen, Innsbruck, Vienna, Algarve, and Surrey. She is a member of several professional organizations such as the International Society for Research in Children’s Literature, the Children’s Literature Association, and the International Society for Folk Narrative Research.
